Project Math helps homeowners plan small projects before they buy.

The site is built for the moment before a store run, quote call, or weekend project, when a homeowner needs a practical material estimate and a clear explanation of the math behind it.

What we publish

Project Math publishes home improvement calculators and short planning guides for paint, flooring, tile, concrete, drywall, landscaping, fencing, decking, and contractor quote checks.

The goal is not to replace product labels, building codes, permit offices, licensed contractors, or professional safety advice. The goal is to make early planning less confusing and reduce obvious overbuying or underbuying mistakes.

How calculators are reviewed

Each calculator shows its formula, uses conservative rounding, and includes a waste buffer because real projects involve cuts, spills, breakage, texture, and measurement mistakes.

Every default value, such as square feet per gallon, bags per cubic yard, or bundles per roofing square, is checked against at least two references: manufacturer product labels and data sheets, industry bodies such as the Tile Council of North America and the American Wood Council, and published building code guidance.

How guides are sourced and updated

Guides start with the short answer and then show the arithmetic, so every number can be checked by hand. Brand and product figures link to the manufacturer page they came from. Each page shows the date it was last reviewed, and pages are rechecked when products, prices, or code guidance change.

Corrections

If a number looks wrong, email hello@projectmath.online with the page and the source you are comparing against. Confirmed errors are fixed and the page review date is updated.
