Flooring Underlayment and Transition Checklist

The box count is only the first number. Underlayment, moisture rules, and transitions can change the real store list.

Check whether the flooring has attached pad, requires separate underlayment, or needs a vapor barrier over concrete. Product instructions matter more than generic advice.

Plan transitions before buying: doorways, stairs, height changes, closets, and edges against tile or carpet often need specific trim pieces.

Let flooring acclimate only if the manufacturer calls for it, and inspect subfloor flatness before the install day so material does not sit unused.
