Deck Board and Joist Estimate Basics

A simple deck budget starts with boards and joists, but final structure depends on spans, loads, footings, and local code.

For deck boards, convert board width and gap into feet, divide the deck width by that coverage, then round up and add waste.

Joist counts depend on spacing and framing direction. Sixteen inches on center is common, but the correct span depends on material, size, load, and code.
